MCA Master 200/OOW 500
SeaRegs offer a regular programme of preparation courses for Master 200/OOW 500 candidates along with most of the ancillary training. Our prep courses are 5 days and have developed over the last few years to concentrate on areas of the syllabus which candidates struggle the most with.
Students receive plenty of resources to help with their own pre and post course study, our dedicated team of Instructors are happy to help with any last minute questions in the run up to the Oral exam.
MCA Boatmaster
To become an MCA Boatmaster, candidates have to take both a practical and oral assessment with their MCA Local Office. SeaRegs are an SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) approved centre for the MSQ units leading to the Level 2 Diploma in Maritime Studies. Successful candidates are eligible to use the Level 2 Diploma instead of the oral assessment.
SeaRegs can provide oral and practical preparation courses for individuals and groups at our venue or yours. The duration will depend on your knowledge starting point.
ECDIS
From 2017 Masters and Officers of the Watch working on vessels fitted with ECDIS are required to attend generic ECDIS and type specific training. SeaRegs Training have MCA approval to run the Generic course based on MNTB and IMO 1.27 Model Course syllabus.
The training is very practically based using the Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS Simulator. We keep the number of participants per course low and the course fee includes training materials, lunch, tea and coffee.
STCW HELM (Operational) certificate
The STCW HELM (Operational) certificate is an MCA requirement for candidates applying for a range of Certificate of Competences such as Master 200/OOW 500, OOW 3000, Y3 and Y4 Engineers, Tug Master (near coastal).
Our HELM courses are held monthly, we’ve developed the course over time to ensure it remains current and interesting whilst covering the learning objectives.
MCA Stability Course
The Workboat code introduced by the MCA in June 2014 includes provision for a 1 day Stability course. SeaRegs is one of the only training providers to have approval from the MCA to run the new MCA Stability for Workboats, Pilot Boats and Small Commercial Vessels course.
Small Ships Navigation and Radar
The SQA Level 3 Award in Maritime Studies: Use of Radar and Electronic Chart Systems in Code Vessels is essentially the same as the MCA Small Ships Navigation and Radar, it’s a non ECDIS course and is one of the training requirements of the 2014 Workboat Code.
MCA Approved Engine Course
MCA 30 hour AEC course, a step up from the RYA 1 day Diesel Engine Maintenance course covering the basic theory and practical knowledge of onboard engineering systems. One of the training requirements for Code Vessels, Large Vessels and Workboats and one of the initial courses on the Engineering pathway.
